Volume 1
This first volume of Design to Driveway sets the scene and introduces many of the key stylists who designed our cars in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

Its chapters cover the development of the FB Holden, HK Holden sedan and Brougham and the XR Ford Falcon GT.

Also covered are the VH Valiant sedan, CH Chrysler by Chrysler, HQ sedan, Statesman, XA Falcon sedan and ZF Fairlane.

These early 1970's vehicles once defined the Australian car market and are the last example of when the “Big Three” would offer all new models, all with similar dimensions, all aimed at the same car buyers and all within a 12 month time period.

Volume 2
The second volume of Design to Driveway recalls the time when the “Big Three” in Australia each designed and marketed an affordable and stylish two door coupe. It was a unique and exciting era that we'll never forget.

Its chapters reveal the many design proposals and the stories behind the development of the HK/HT/HG Monaro coupe, the HQ/HJ/HX Monaro coupe, the VH Valiant Charger and Chrysler by Chrysler hardtop, the XA Falcon coupe, P4 Landau and the LH/LX Torana sedan and hatchback.

David Burrell is founder and editor of Retroautos, Australia’s online classic cars magazine which is hosted by the Shannons Club. David has a passion for cars, car design and motor racing.

He has been contributing to magazines since 1981. He was a columnist for a national newspaper group and, in addition to Retroautos, is a radio and online automotive industry commentator.

David was also a senior executive in a Fortune 500 company, working and living in Australia, NZ, Asia, Latin America and the UK. His daily drive is a Pontiac Firebird.
